Engine Orange

There are strange warm gasses rising out of the dirt, out of manholes; I think a volcano is forming under the school. I noticed a few days ago on the first crisp fall morning we had a pillar of steam coming out of the storm drain at the curb next to our building… but there are spots in the grass where it rises as well. It stinks—not like a sewer, thank fuck, but like moldy pipes, roots, minerals & the oxidation of metal. Like someone’s hot breath. It’s the collective vapor of everything buried beneath the quad, every moist & manmade cavity underground exhaling together at once. It definitely tickles the sinuses.

Today’s chronology: Class, practice, midterm, bong hits w/Tayler, practice, sleep, ensemble, eat, more bong hits, more sleep, read, practice again… Sean & I are busy; Ceejay is bored.
